Toshakhana is a word of Sanskrit/Hindi origin meaning a "Treasure House" It relates to the Mughal era when the princes or kings used to receive gifts from the visiting royal guests and the same were placed in safe custody controlled and managed by the ruling governments. Currently, it is a state-owned department managed by the Cabinet Division of Pakistan. It was formed in 1974. Its objective is to keep gifts and presents received by ministers, foreign secretaries, members of parliaments, prime ministers, and presidents of the state. Previously few people related to the department only knew about its work, but since the regime change and induction of the imported government, the opposition is more frequently chanted about the fraudulent act done by Imran Khan at Toshakhana.
